The agency OSTKREUZ was founded in 1990 during the time of upheaval in East Berlin. For Keep Dreaming — Berlin, the 90s, nine OSTKREUZ photographers, in collaboration with curators Annette Hauschild (OSTKREUZ) and Boaz Levin (C/O Berlin Foundation), took a contemporary look into their extensive archives. As documentarians, they closely followed where changes in the city took place during the peak of photojournalism. They observed the societal transformation and the challenges of the reunification of the former walled city. The essays reflect this on different levels: On one hand, the transformation of the urban space (Janos Frecot) is illuminated, and on the other hand, the creative and cultural potentials of Berlin are described (Jens Balzer), while Anne Rabe, as a young East German voice, offers her personal perspective on present-day Berlin in a very intimate essay.
